In the woods, overcast

Well, the nice weather lasted but one day, so now we're back to heavy overcast again, with all the dull flat light that entails. Perfect for a walk in the woods then! Ok not really, but still, I wanted to get out the house for a bit, rather than sit indoors playing Guild Wars 2 all day, so what the heck. I brought my tripod, since shooting at f/8 meant shutter speeds in the 1/6th of second range. One thing I really appreciate about the X-T2 compared to the XE1 is the tilting screen: I don't have a »

Dunwich: a walk in the woods

Taking advantage of the excellent weather we've been having lately, Zoe and I went for a walk in Dunwich Forest. We also got a bit disoriented on the way back and ended up crossing Westleton Heath, taking our distance walked to 10km. Good thing we need the exercise! »

Dunwich Heath, overcast

Zoe and I visited Dunwich Heath yesterday, primarily because it's a nice place to go for a walk, but also because we hoped to get some nice photos. The sky was quite heavily overcast, though, putting a dampener on our pictorial ambitions, but we still enjoyed the walk (at least until about half way when Zoe's boots started hurting her feet). »

Dunwich Heath in the evening

Summer is definitely on the way: the evenings are light for longer (sunset is around 20:00), the weather is warmer, and things are starting to grow green bits. I've visited Dunwich Heath before, earlier in the year, and although I got a nice walk out of it, I got there a little too late to get many decent photos, even with the tripod. This time though I arrived with enough time to enjoy an hour's walk before the sun set. Equipment note: all the pictures here were taking using the Fuji 50–230mm. It's a pretty nice lightweight telephoto »

OCOLOY Week 49

Oops. I seem to have missed a week! Honestly, there's no good reason for this, just a combination of forgetfulness and lack of motivation; that week, I really didn't get out to take pictures much. Fortunately, this week was rather more productive: not only did I manage to get out for a few early morning walks, today Zoe and I went to Framlingham Castle! That last time she was there the market was on, so Zoe brought back some delicious brownies and cheesecakes, but alas this time (being a Sunday) there was no market. Still, it was a very enjoyable »

OCOLOY Week 29

I made much more of an effort this week to get out and take pictures. I even got in my car and drove somewhere! (Amazing, I know) As a result, I had quite a few more pictures to choose from than in previous weeks, which of course necessitated sharpening my editing (in the selection sense) skills. This, I think, is one of the challenges of this whole project: picking a small number of really good pictures from perhaps hundreds. It gets especially tough once I've narrowed it down to 10 or so, because at that point I like all of »
