OCOLOY Week 44

Busy at work this week, and you know what that means: not many pictures taken - few enough, in fact, that I had to scavenge some from last week to make 7. The week wasn't a total lazy-fest though, as I've started going running again, 3 times a week, using a 10K training thing on my phone. I say 'running' but at this stage it's actually 80% walking, but given how unfit I am, running for 1 minute at a time then walking for 4 minutes is plenty. »

OCOLOY Week 35

Oh dear. This week was mostly a disappointment, photographically, as I spent almost no time out taking pictures. The short time I did spend at Oulton Broad yesterday with Zoe did prove fruitful, though - the last picture in particular I really like, and that somewhat makes up for the rest of the week's mediocrity. So few little time did I spec with the camera, in fact, that this week I only have 4 pictures worth showing, and one of those was from last week (I didn't include it at the time because it didn't really fit the fog theme »

OCOLOY Week 17

Not that long ago I said I was finally getting comfortable with the 'normal' field of view, in the same way that after a year of owning an X100 I got comfortable with that camera's 'wide normal' view. I'm now also feeling a similar thing to what I felt before I caved and bought my X-E1: constraint, and perhaps boredom. Perhaps it's part of the point of this exercise, to face these feelings and then overcome them, I don't know. I do know, however, that I've been thinking more and more lately about giving in and using the perfectly fine »

OCOLOY Week 8

I confess I was quite slack this week, not taking any photos at all until the weekend, and even then only getting out for an hour or so on a dull, cloudy evening. Still, it was good to get out for a walk over to the beach again – with the bad weather it's not really been worth it very often. I also had some more thoughts on the 'dishonesty' of adding grain to my photos even though practically speaking the source data is mostly noise-free. The key word is 'mostly': while shooting at up to around 1600 ISO results in »

Holiday in Malta, Day 7

Posts in this series: Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4 Day 5 Day 6 Day 7 Day 8 My last full day in Malta, and it was a lazy one – I got up late, and didn't really go anywhere adventurous, instead opting to go to Marsaxlokk again for lunch with my parents. Before that, though, I went for a walk around Birżebbuġa since I'd not really explored it much yet. Walk done, I headed to Marsaxlokk, and this time got off the bus a little earlier so I could walk along more of the waterfront. That's it, really, »
