Carlton Marshes, somewhat desiccated

I last went to Carlton Marshes just under two months ago, and it was rather wet and muddy then, despite the sun. Now, in late March after a week or so of sun and no rain, it's much drier. Still cold, but not unpleasantly so - in fact, by the end of the walk I was wishing I hadn't brought my coat. X-T2, 14/2.8, 23/2 and 60/2.4 »

Carlton Marshes in winter

As mentioned in the previous two posts, the atmosphere has been conspiring against me. New camera, no good light for taking pictures. Well! Today that all changed, as finally the sun came out at the same time I had the opportunity to actually go out and make the most of it! Hurrah! Carlton Marshes is a nature reserve I've been to before, but until now have never managed to really make any pictures there worth showing to anyone. It's a really nice place, albeit very muddy at this time of year. It also really highlights just how flat this part »

Beach boat details

Yesterday the weather was hot and shiny so I went for a walk to Pakefield beach. I hadn't planned it at the time but it turns out I got a nice selection of detail shots of the various boats. »

OCOLOY Week 45

Quite a 'close to home' week, this one, in that I didn't really venture any further afield than Lowestoft, at least not anywhere photographically interesting. There industrial estate near Beccles where we went for breakfast, at a café called Posh Pigs, might have borne some fruit, if the weather was nicer and we'd had more free time to spend there, so it might be worth a return trip (even if just for the food!). The weather's also not been quite as cold lately, so I may see about another trip to Dunwich forest. »

OCOLOY Week 10

A little late posting this week, as I've been very busy at work, on top of needing to get my car fixed. Anyway, week ten! One fifth of the way through, and I feel like I'm really starting to get comfortable with the 50mm-e focal length now. I'm finding it much easier to pre-visualise framing, so I'm able to move to a position, bring the camera up to my eye and have things more or less look how I expect. Oulton Broad

I recently went to nearby Oulton Broad, a large lake and marshland west of Lowestoft. Luckily the weather was shiny, and although a little chilly, by the time I'd done a fair amount of walking I was plenty warm. Hopefully when the weather warms up a bit more Zoe and I will go out here for a picnic, and have a walk around the local town. The view east from Bridge Road, looking towards the rail bridge. A jetty leading towards the rail bridge. The same jetty, but viewed from the south. I'm not sure if there are still boat »

Fog in the Morning

It’s not often we get fog like this in the morning, so I felt compelled to take advantage of it with a nice walk to the beach before work. Office building in front of our local water tower It’s quite an odd experience walking on a foggy beach. Despite the fog, I still saw a few people walking their dogs, and heard several more.
