I recently went to nearby Oulton Broad, a large lake and marshland west of Lowestoft. Luckily the weather was shiny, and although a little chilly, by the time I’d done a fair amount of walking I was plenty warm.
Hopefully when the weather warms up a bit more Zoe and I will go out here for a picnic, and have a walk around the local town.
The view east from Bridge Road, looking towards the rail bridge.
A jetty leading towards the rail bridge.
The same jetty, but viewed from the south.
I’m not sure if there are still boat trips available – at least one of the boats didn’t look in very good condition. Perhaps I’ll find out in a month or two.

The southern side of the broad is host to a large marina, with various private craft.
Wide boat.
Moored yachts and dinghy.
Just off Bridge Road to the south of the broad is Nicholas Everitt Park, which has a playground and a few cafés and shops at its edge.
Everitt Park pond.
On the western edge of the park is Waveney & Oulton Broad Yacht Club.
