Oulton Broad Boats, and lens/camera musing
Saturday 24th of September 2016
Since the weather was lovely this evening I went for a walk around Nicholas Everitt Park in Oulton Broad with my X-E1 and 18 – 55mm lens. This was also to satisfy some curiousity I had about the lens: have I been too dismissive of it in the past? (I’ve never really enjoyed using it.) small boat prow The lens gets a lot of praise, being sharper and faster than the average kit lens, and better-built t…

OCOLOY Week 40
Sunday 13th of December 2015
40 feels like a milestone, a nice round number of weeks. It’s certainly a significant chunk of a year! Still, the ones I’m most looking forward to are 42 and 47, or ‘10 weeks to go’ and ‘5 weeks to go’, and of course weeks 51 and 52 will be rather exciting. OCOLOY Week 33
Tuesday 27th of October 2015
Much like last week , the weather this week was mostly grey and dull, making me really feel the onset of winter, and its associated emotional blues. OCOLOY Week 4
Tuesday 10th of February 2015
For this week I’ve gone with the suggestion to stick with just one processing preset in Capture One – Robert Boyer’s Tri-X +2 , which is a grainy, contrasty and ‘vintage’ look that I really like. Admittedly, it’s a bit… dishonest, perhpas? I mean, the output from the X-E1 is nowhere near as coarse-grained – the picture below shows a 100% crop comparing the normal Tri-X preset (with grain amou…

Holiday camera: Fuji X-E1 and XF 35mm
Monday 14th of April 2014
As mentioned in my Day 1 post, I took my Fuji X-E1 and XF 35mm f/1.4 lens to Malta for a week. I limited myself to just the one prime lens for two reasons, the main one being size and weight. The 35mm is quite a light lens, and given I spent most of my time with it in my hand (secured with a Gordy’s wrist strap ), that was certainly a point in its favour. Plus, although with the hood it sticks …
