Fog at Night
Friday 19th of September 2014
Fog has always fascinated me – the way it makes things look is obviously different, but also the way it mutes sounds, and disorients the senses. At night time these effects are amplified further, with large patches of grey that fade out into unknown darkness. lamp post shadow Odd shadow below a lamp post backlit spider web shady alley Fog is great for light rays bright bollards The street lights l…

[WoW] 10 Years, 10 Questions
Tuesday 12th of August 2014
This is in response to The Godmother’s post wherein she presents the 10 questions to World of Warcraft players. 1. Why did you start playing Warcraft ? I’m honestly not sure any more, it’s been so long. I think it was mostly just idle curiosity, piqued after I saw an advert somewhere about the free trial, and simply wondering what all this MMO lark was all about. 2. What was the first ever char…

Writing by hand
Tuesday 22nd of July 2014
Matt Gemmell’s latest post about how we’ve lost the intimacy of hand-written letters in this age of electronic communications makes a good point: receiving a hand-written communication is a hugely more personal experience than simply viewing ephemeral text on a screen. Handwriting used to be my daily companion, and now it’s becoming a rare art. I wonder how much this is ‘becoming’ the case for p…

London Streets
Monday 21st of July 2014
Saturday was a bit of a gamble, weather-wise – originally forecast to be a toasty 29°, this was later amended to warn of possible storms, so the employer-organised picnic Zoe and I were going to in London was cancelled. Having already bought our train tickets, we decided to have a day out in London anyway, and have lunch with my brother and his girlfriend. The 08:00 train from Lowestoft to Ipswic…

Heveningham Hall Country Fair
Tuesday 15th of July 2014
Last weekend, the 12th and 13th of July, the Heveningham Hall Country Fair was held. It sounded like a fine day out so Zoe and I went on the Sunday. We were quite fortunate with the weather – although it was raining pretty hard on the way, making driving along some single-track country roads somewhat more exciting than usual, by the time we reached the Fair the skies had cleared somewhat, givin…

Moving House With Cats
Thursday 10th of July 2014
One month ago, on the 10th of June 2014, my fiancée and I moved house from Liverpool to Lowerstoft , taking our two cats with us. Having never done this before, it was an interesting and quite educational experience, and now that they’re both more or less settled in I decided to write about it. Pakefield Beach
Sunday 6th of July 2014
My fiancée Zoe and I moved house recently, to Carlton Colville, a small suburb south of Lowestoft , and one of the nicest things about it is that it’s only a short walk to the beach in nearby Pakefield. view south along Pakefield beach The view south along Pakefield beach me on the steps down to Pakefield beach Zoe took this picture of me on the steps down to Pakefield beach The beach is very wel…

21 terrible/awesome jokes from Buzzfeed
Monday 28th of April 2014
I wanted to textify the jokes from the Buzzfeed page because the more people that read them, the better. My sister bet me $100 I couldn’t build a car of out spaghetti. You should’ve seen the look on her face as I drove pasta. How many South Americans does it take to change a lightbulb? A Brazilian. What time does Sean Connery get to Wimbledon? Tennish. I went to a zoo the other day. It was empty…

Holiday camera: Fuji X-E1 and XF 35mm
Monday 14th of April 2014
As mentioned in my Day 1 post, I took my Fuji X-E1 and XF 35mm f/1.4 lens to Malta for a week. I limited myself to just the one prime lens for two reasons, the main one being size and weight. The 35mm is quite a light lens, and given I spent most of my time with it in my hand (secured with a Gordy’s wrist strap ), that was certainly a point in its favour. Plus, although with the hood it sticks …

Holiday in Malta, Day 8
Friday 11th of April 2014
Posts in this series: Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4 Day 5 Day 6 Day 7 Day 8 My last day in Malta! Although my plane wasn’t until 20:35, I didn’t want to go anywhere too far away in case there was a problem with buses or something, so we decided we’d visit Marsaskala again, like we did on my first day. Before that though, I went for another walk around Birżebbuġa, because I was curious about wha the big …

Holiday in Malta, Day 7
Tuesday 8th of April 2014
Posts in this series: Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4 Day 5 Day 6 Day 7 Day 8 My last full day in Malta, and it was a lazy one – I got up late, and didn’t really go anywhere adventurous, instead opting to go to Marsaxlokk again for lunch with my parents. Before that, though, I went for a walk around Birżebbuġa since I’d not really explored it much yet. backlit street sidelit postbox fruit seller newly-bui…

Holiday in Malta: Day 6
Monday 7th of April 2014
Posts in this series: Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4 Day 5 Day 6 Day 7 Day 8 Even though it’s not really a fishing village, lots of people in Birżebbuġa own boats. boats The town is pretty small and quiet, so if you’re after somewhere like that, I’d recommend it for a holiday. From around the start of April, the weather starts getting comfortably warm; before that it can be quite cold even when the sky i…

Holiday in Malta: Day 5
Saturday 5th of April 2014
Posts in this series: Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4 Day 5 Day 6 Day 7 Day 8 The weather forcast for today was not promising, but fortunately it wasn’t accurate either – the sun was out and the wind was pretty mild, so all in all the temperature was quite pleasant. The landlord of my parents’ flat works at the Għar Dalam caves and he’d arranged to get us in for free, but since the caves don’t open unti…
